چکیده

This paper presents results of an empirical study on the flow and noise generated by the trailing edge of a flat plate encountering low turbulence fluid flow. Simultaneous measurements of flow and far-field noise data have been taken in an anechoic wind tunnel at the University of Adelaide. Velocity data about the trailing edge and in the wake have been measured using hot-wire anemometry. These data are related to far-field noise measurements obtained with two microphones: one mounted above and one mounted below the trailing edge. Spectral maps of the fluctuating velocity about the trailing edge are also presented. Experimental data of this kind provides further insight into the trailing edge noise mechanism and can be used to validate theoretical noise predictions calculated using computational aeroacoustic techniques.

Empirical study of the tonal noise radiated by a sharp- edged flat plate at low-to-moderate Reynolds number

Airfoils operating at low-to-moderate Reynolds number may produce noise that contains one or more high amplitude tonal components. Many previous researchers have attributed airfoil tonal noise to a feedback loop between instabilities in the laminar boundary layer and the acoustic waves produced at the trailing edge. There is, however, limited experimental evidence to verify this proposed hypoth...

On the aeroacoustic tonal noise generation mechanism of a sharp-edged plate.

This letter presents an experimental study on the tonal noise generated by a sharp-edged flat plate at low-to-moderate Reynolds number. Flow and far-field noise data reveal that, in this particular case, the tonal noise appears to be governed by vortex shedding processes. Also related to the existence of the tonal noise is a region of separated flow slightly upstream of the trailing edge. Hydro...

Computation of Trailing Edge Noise with a Discontinuous Galerkin Method

Trailing edge noise of a semi-infinite, thin, flat plate situated in low Mach number flow is computed in two spatial dimensions. The Acoustic Perturbation Equations (APE), which are employed as governing equations, are discretized via a Discontinuous Galerkin Method (DGM). Results are compared with theory and Finite Difference (FD) computations. Next to the radiated sound field, special attenti...

Statistical Estimation of Turbulent Trailing Edge Noise

A new computational aeroacoustic model suitable for the prediction of turbulent airfoil trailing edge noise is presented. The method (known as the RANS based Statistical Noise Model or RSNM) combines numerically generated, mean turbulence information with a Green’s function for a semi-infinite half-plane to generate a far-field acoustic auto-spectrum. As a preliminary application of the method,...

Simulating Cooling Injection Effect of Trailing Edge of Gas Turbine Blade on Surface Mach Number Distribution of Blade

In this research, a gas turbine blade cascade was investigated. Flow analysis around the blade was conducted using RSM and RNG.K-ε turbulence modeling and it is simulated by Fluent software. The results were considered for the cases as Mach number loss at the trailing edge of blade caused by vortexes that were generated at the end of blade. Effect of cooling flow through the trailing edge on th...
